Fellowship Holiday Party 2023
Last Thursday we had the holiday party for our fellowship program. All of our first year fellows, half our second year fellows, half our third year fellows (and their families), and several beloved staff members were present. It was a really nice time to catch up with one another over a nice meal and drinks. This is the first time since before the pandemic that I've been able to have a work-related holiday party. Back in 2018 as an intern, and then in 2019 as a second year resident, the Cleveland Clinic IM program staff hosted a really nice holiday party for us at a local brewery. None of us could have imagined that just two short months after that 2019 party we'd be headed toward a pandemic and > 3 years of social distancing.

This month also marks the midway point through my final year of fellowship. The whole experience has gone by so quickly and I am so thankful for my program at Scripps. It's given me a chance to learn about care for solid tumors and blood disorders in a very supportive environment. My co-fellows are excellent and they make each day at work a joy. It's been a real treat to serve as Chief Fellow this year to give back to a program that has given me so much.
Today, I talked with my Program Director about the transition process to the next Chief for our program. It's hard to believe that I've nearly been in those role for a year already! Over the next few months, I will pass along my wisdom to the person who follows me and then my service to the program will wind down as she prepares on onboard our next set of fellows and build the 2024-2025 call schedule. Speaking of, we matched four exceptional fellows for next year from four different institutions including USC, Loma Linda, Scripps Mercy, and University of Texas McGovern in Houston. McGovern is my alma mater and it will be the fourth doc from McGovern training at Scripps in the recent 4 years. I am so excited for these doctors as they start their own training experiences in our beautiful hospital and clinic that overlooks the Pacific Ocean.
